My current choice of default FTP server for Linux

In the past, I was using proftpd for setting up FTP access to various things. Life was okay, but I wasn’t totally happy with it. I’m writing this so I remember what I settled on and how to change the most common setting I always change…

Recently I tried vsftpd and was quite happy with how easy it was to configure. I just wanted something lightweight and fast. It worked first time.

To change the default root directory:

1. edit /etc/vsftpd.conf

2. add the line: local_root=/mnt/scratch

3. done.
