Motorola RAZR MAXX SIM Card Removed Error

I’m not sure what happened, but I rebooted my phone (Verizon; Motorola RAZR MAX) today and up came a screen claiming that the SIM card had recently been removed and I needed to put in my account name and password to unlock my phone.

Except nothing would take.

I tried resetting my MOTOBLUR account, and Motorola just failed to perform that simple task. I tried every password I could think of that I might type into my phone. No luck.

Well, great. Chat tech support was no good, since they escalated my case and then told me to call them… see where this is a problem?

I finally found a decent solution on a message board somewhere; and this is absolute genius:

1. Hold down the power button to get the power down dialog.

2. Put phone into airplane mode.

3. Reboot phone.

4. When phone is rebooted, you will skip the password screen. Great security features, Motorola! Guess two wrongs do make a right.

5. Place a call to someone. I have no idea why this works (perhaps outgoing calls force some SIM reset function?). You will be prompted to turn back on the radio, and you can do it.

6. Don’t reboot your phone, or else you’ll have to do this again.

Seriously, Motorola? I don’t have the time to deal with this right now, so I won’t. But I hope this gets fixed with the next upgrade. It’s stupid things like this that’ll force me to iOS, you know.
